Patients have a growing influence on decision-making. Patients in Europe may not be as well informed as those in North America but with the support of a number of not-for-profit patient groups their views have more effect than in the past. NICE includes patients and patient groups as stakeholders in its assessments and for some medical products patients and patient group play a key role in product uptake and market penetration.
