NICE interventional procedures
NICE has responsibility for issuing guidance on interventional procedures, through the Interventional Procedures Advisory committee [IPAC]. IPAC’s remit is to monitor and review new interventional procedures to ensure safety. Clinicians wishing to use a new procedure work with IPAC to collect data which is then reviewed and a guideline issued before a procedure is used outside the initial user group. In this way innovation is fostered but diffusion into the market is controlled. Companies with products or services that come under the remit of IPAC will need to work with clinicians and assemble the safety information that the committee requires. Translucency identifies suitable opinion leaders and reference centres, and provides advice on the information requirements of the committee. We also advise where it may be in the client’s interests to propose that IPAC consider a new interventional procedure.
