HTA elsewhere in the EU

HTA is being widely used throughout Europe to assess current and new medical technologies. For example, Spain has a number of agencies active in this area the best known of which is the Catalan Agency for Health Technology Assessment and Research. In Germany a request for a new EBM code, a pre-requisite for funding in the office based sector requires an application to the Joint Federal Committee (G-BA) for a health technology assessment. Recently HTA agencies, research institutions and health ministries from 24 European countries have joined together to form a network for the effective exchange for health technology assessments.
